Cactus skeleton
Cacti live in extremely dry environments, showing many adaptations to conserve water. A cactus is a member of the plant family Cactaceae, the vast majority being native to the Americas.
The Joshua Tree National Park is located in southeastern California. A large part of the park (173,890 ha), is a designated wilderness area. It consists of two deserts, each an ecosystem whose characteristics are determined primarily by elevation: the higher Mojave Desert and lower Colorado Desert. The higher and slightly cooler Mojave Desert is the special habitat of the Joshua tree for which the park is named.
