Lemonwood (Pittosporum eugenioides), or tarata (Maori) is a species of New Zealand native tree growing up to 12 meters in height being New Zealand's largest pittosporum. It is found throughout New Zealand along forest margins, stream banks and regenerating scrub from sea level to 600 metres in elevation. It is easily distinguished from other plants by its glossy yellow-green leaves that when crushed emit a strong lemon scent. Maori traditionally used the gum and crushed leaves and flowers of the tarata for scent.
