Cattle in the Dobson Valley
Hereford cattle, originally bred in Herefordshire (England), have distinctive red-and-white body markings and a white face. They were introduced to New Zealand in 1868. The Hereford is hardy and can be run in a wide range of environmental conditions including high country stations throughout the South Island. The cows are highly fertile and calve easily.br/br/Today they are farmed mainly for meat production, as Herefords convert feed to meat efficiently and produce a high-quality carcass.br/
