Anchor Island in Dusky Sound

Anchor Island in Dusky Sound

Anchor Island is a 1,380#160;ha island located near the mouth of Dusky Sound, Fiordland National Park in the Southland district of New Zealand. Having been cleared of mammalian predators, it is now used by the Department of Conservation as a safe haven for endangered birds such as saddleback, mohua and kakapo.br/br/Established in 1952, Fiordland National Park is a vast, remote wilderness in the South West New Zealand World Heritage Area. The power of Fiordland’s scenery never fails to impress travellers and adventurers; waterfalls tumble hundreds of metres into massive fiords, ancient rainforests cloak the landscape and cling impossibly to sheer mountain faces, and the spectacular sounds, lakes, valleys, saddles and peaks look the same today as they did thousands of years ago.
