Panoramic view from the Karitane Peninsula; looking over the Pacific Ocean stretching from Matanaka Point at the northern end of Waikouaiti Beach, around to Karitane and the Otago Peninsula to the south.br/br/Huriawa Pa on Karitane Peninsula, sited on a promontory overlooking the mouth of the Waikouaiti River, was a stronghold of the Ngāi Tahu chief Te Wera. The site is now a historic reserve, south-east of the Karitāne township.
