New Zealand Pigeon 3
The New Zealand Pigeon (Hemiphaga novaeseelandiae), or Kereru (Maori), is found in forests throughout New Zealand. It is the only surviving bird since moa and huia capable of ingesting the large fruit and berries of the native trees of New Zealand and dispersing their seed. The mainland New Zealand Pigeon grows to 51cm in length and 650g in weight, compared to 55cm and 800g for the Chatham Island variant (parea).
