The view of the Akaroa Harbour from the Hilltop Tavern on Bank's Peninsula.br/br/Akaroa Harbour is part of Banks Peninsula in the Canterbury Region of New Zealand, the entire harbour being the extinct caldrea of an extinct volcano. The towns or settlements of Akaroa, Duvauchelle, Barrys Bay, French Farm and Wainui lie on the shoreline of the harbour. Cruise ships regularly enter the harbour, with the passengers visiting Akaroa township itself. Hector's dolphins may be found in the sheltered waters and 'swim with the dolphins' boat tours are a major tourist attraction.
