Banded Dotteral 1

The Banded Dotterel (Charadrius bicinctus), or Tuturiwhatu (Maori), is the most common dotterel in New Zealand. They inhabit a variety of habitats on coasts, farms and on the shores of lakes and riverbeds. The Banded Dotterel feeds on molluscs, sandhoppers, fish, crabs and a range of other invertebrates. During the winter these birds head down to tidal areas and estuaries.
