Fernbird 12
The Fernbird (Bowdleria punctata), or Mātātā (Maori), is an insectivorous bird endemic to New Zealand. They are secretive birds that live in dense rush-like or scrubby vegetation at the edges of pakihi or swamp, grasslands or in regenerating forest. The Fernbird is a reluctant flier, travelling mainly on foot or in occasional short flights of less than 15 metres and often 'thread' their way through tightly interlocking vegetation.
