The Galah (Eolophus roseicapilla), also known as the Rose-breasted Cockatoo, is one of the most common and widespread cockatoos, and it can be found in open country in almost all parts of mainland Australia. The changes wrought by European settlement, a disaster for many species, have been highly beneficial for the galah particularly with the provision of stock watering points in arid zones, and it is common in metropolitan areas aswell, such as Perth or Adelaide or Alice Springs.
"Galah" is also light-hearted Australian slang, synonymous with 'fool' or 'idiot', such as "ya great galah".
