The Australian Pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus) is a large water bird, widespread on the inland and coastal waters of Australia. They inhabit fresh and salt water lakes and estuaries, rivers, swamps and seashores.

With a capacity up to seven litres, the bird’s pouch is used mainly as a ‘scoop net’ for catching small fish and shrimps. Groups of these birds often work together, herding schools of fish into shallow areas.
