Robin Bush & Chatham Island shag

Robin Bush photographing Chatham Island Shags at the southern tip of South East Island.

The Chatham Shag (Phalacrocorax onslowi), also known as the Chatham Island Shag, is found only in the Chatham Islands. Its natural habitats are the open seas and rocky shores and today is threatened by habitat loss.

South East Island/Rangatira is the third largest island in the Chatham Islands chain. It covers an area of 218 hectares, rising to 224m high above the western cliffs. It is located 800 kilometres east of New Zealand off the southeast coast of Pitt Island.
