Feral goat 1
The feral goat (Capra hircus) has become established in the wild in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Great Britain, Hawaii, the Galapagos and in many other parts of the world. When feral goats reach large populations in habitats which are not natural adapted to them, they become an invasive species with serious negative effects, such as removing native scrub, trees and other vegetation. Goats were introduced to New Zealand in the early days of European settlement. Today they occur onÊboth main islands andÊa fewÊoffshore islands, thriving in the countryÕs forest, scrubland, grassland and subalpine areas.
