Fallow Deer 1

Fallow Deer (Dama dama) is a ruminant mammal belonging to the family Cervidae. Native to western Eurasia, fallow were introduced and established in New Zealand following 24 releases between 1860 and 1910. The male is known as a buck, having broad, shovel-shaped antlers. Fawns are born in spring at about 30Êcm long and weigh around 4.5Êkg, the life span is around 12Ð16 years. The common coat variation has a brown coat with white mottles that are most pronounced in summer with a much darker coat in the winter. All of the Fallow deer have white spots on their backs, and black tips at the ends of their tails.
